- last night was awesome...great response and vibe

- excited about a date night coming up this weekend...with all this grand opening stuff it is about time.

- super bowl- can't wait for the commercials, especially this one i keep hearing about from pepsi...it's supposed to be 1 minute of complete silence.

- excited to see my almost brother Ryan this weekend.

- last night we had a kid eat an entire banana through panty hose. it was also the first time i legitimatly thought John was going to throw up on stage.

Really Excited- the shack

Going to hear William Young speak in our church's coffee shop today. He wrote one of the most impactful books of the year in 2007. It's #42 on Amazon and #6 in all fiction. It's called "the shack," and i think you should check it out. I'm pretty excited.

Can't Do It Can You???

I tried to do this for about 5 minutes before I realized I was just bad at stuff...stuff like everything. Anyway, getting all jacked up about tomorrow already.

500

pretty stoked because my e-mail list just hit 500 with our visitors from last week. now, out of those 500 parents, how many of them do you think read their e-mail?

Pretty Cool

I was able to rest yesterday...which was pretty stinkin' awesome. I am now ready ro go and feel like 100 dollars. Here are some of my goals for the week:

1.) Contact all new comers
2.) Rock out on Wed. night
3.) Figure out how to programm hallway tv screens
4.) Record Wed. night message
5.) Learn about doing a podcast

Ready to speed up my roll playa!

Sunday Grand Opening

Today marked the grand opening of our new facility on Highway 20. Result, with two services, students, children, in all we had a really large group. Now, that doesn't mean anything...but the quality of today was amazing. Giving our people something to work toward really made them reply with an awesome effort. I think everyone who is a member here felt like an insider trying to reach the community. So, please celebrate with me. 12Stone is in the process of taking our post in the Kingdom to a new level. I am so excited to be on this journey with the people here who now feel like family. I had to stop and thank God today just for allowing me to be part of what's going on here. To think about the possibility of this a year ago would have seemed laughable...actually thinking I would be in ministry a year ago seemed like a long shot. Anyway, God really is good.

This is a shot taken from tunnel entrance A during the 11:00 service.

Vol Retreat

Got in last night around 11:30 from our volunteer retreat.
Here are some of the highlights...

1.) Wailing on John Shaver with my paintball gun.
2.) Matt Brinkley's first session
3.) Matt Brinkley's second session
4.) Not getting hit with a single paintball
5.) Playing "ultimate spoons"
6.) Losing 5 straight games of BATTLESHIP
7.) Worhipping with our adult team

Looks good...and gets great reviews

This is the coolest thing I've ever seen.

Ever.

Macbook Air- time to start eating lunch at home so i can start saving for the next....who knows how long.

The Next 72

The next 72 hours are going to be quite interesting. We about to leave for our volunteer retreat this afternoon and will be back tomorrow night from a pretty intense two days of training. I am planning on teaching about 3 sessions tomorrow morning so that will be interesting.
Sunday Morning is our church's grand opening. Please pray.

Had a great surprise yesterday- grandmother and grandaddy came by for a quick visit and dinner. it was really cool to see them.

peace.

So Far So Good

So far this week I feel like I've gotten a good amount of stuff done...like:

1.) built an ark
2.) broke my toe
3.) made 605 phone calls
4.) broke fire code by maxxing out our "1 week old" room
5.) shopped at home depot for medical equipment

what's left to do with the next four days?

1.) prepare for leader's retreat
2.) write two more messages
3.) go on leader's retreat
4.) dominate in paintball
5.) grand opening of 12Stone Church on Sunday January 27, @ 9:00 & 11:00

Also- I would love to be going to NYC again soon. This is the view from our room at th Westin when we were there last month.

Grande Opening

Today is the day. Grand Opening is tonight at ReMix- 7:00 p.m. This is my face because of the things still left on the list to do for tonight. God, would you please use that which is way imperfect and broken to do and make something beautiful. Let's light this candle.

couples' day

don't you just hate those couples who feel like they have to dress alike whenever they go out in public? got to work yesterday and found out i was twins with Eric Echols our children's pastor. cool huh?

late night

last night i got home from work at 11:00 p.m. and was ready to just drink some nyquil and go to sleep. but before i did i had to have my world made right again. that's the great thing about lane.

Tuesday, January 22, 2008

hmmm...

Ok, so I just found out the Heath Ledger died today. Really weird considering the last post.

Last Moments

I know that this might sound like a weird topic but I was thinking this morning about eternity and what it means. I also thought about what I would want my last words to be. What if I don't have a choice? There are so many people who pass through the gates of eternity and did not know that the last __________ they uttered was it...that after that it was done and over. What would yours' be if you could choose? I wonder what mine would be?

looooonnnng day

Here's how yesterday went...

7:00 - prayer meeting
8:30 - writing
10:00 - staff meeting
11:30 lunch
1:00- meeting
3:00- begin phone calls
6:00- construct ark made of canned food and cereal
6:15 - drop can on toe, dent can, break toe
7:00- new backdrop construction
7:00-9:00 - 400 calls made because of snow storm
9:00 - 10:30 - more writing

Maunday Maunday

I'd just like to take some time and point out the fact that not having kids is totally cool with me. Last night I was supposed to go to a movie and you know what happened? Everyone who had kids cancelled(everyone has kids but me). I know that I am supposed to procreate and everything, but I am enjoying just recreating (you like how I did that?) for the time being. I guess that's what happens when all of your friends are 5 years older than you are.

peace.

there will be blood...

pretty pumped about going to see this movie tonight with the boys.

Just being honest

Read some interesting stuff in the blogosphere yesterday about churches/pastors who chose not to close their doors today due to the inclement weather. I have to be honest and say that some of their stuff was pretty inflammatory. My friend Matt and his family were involved in a pretty serious accident about 10 years ago on their way to church in the snow/ice but walked away without too much physical damage.

I wonder how much pride (whether positive or negative) is required to be a successful pastor? I am not trying to lunge out at anyone here. I have to deal with my pride every moment. I have to have times with God to confess and ask for forgiveness from both God and those around me. I just want to know, what's up with that?

That being said, I just want to say that Lane is awesome. We had to call all of our volunteers and students last night which meant long hours on the phone and she called just as many people as anyone else. She is a blessing in every sense of the word and is probably reading this post going, "Pride huh? Now that's the pot calling the kettle black." LOL.

NEXT TIME- No services at 12Stone Tomorrow

Middle School,

I just wanted to let you all know that tomorrow morning's services have been cancelled. The Grand Opening is now set for Sunday January 27th. We know that some (probably around 1,500 of you) die hard 12Stone members would be there tomorrow but we want to make sure the grand opening of the building is done right and in style.

I know that this is a major bummer but we trust that God has some HUGE plans for our ministry this year and we are SO EXCITED to see what HE is going to do in our midst.

ReMix is still going to meet on Wednesday night, January 23 at 7:00 p.m. I will be sending you another e-mail this week as a reminder but don't forget to invite everyone you know to this amazing night. We have never tried anything like this before and are SO STOKED about what is going on! Remember, THE ARK IS COMING!!!

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend and I look forward to seeing you soon. Please be careful if you are out on the roads or outside.

NO WAY

It's snowing, and our grand opening in tomorrow morning. If you are a righteous person then please pray this stuff melts and fast.

This is from our top deck at our house at 6:00 a.m. this morning. You can see the snow if you look hard enough. Ok, so my Macbook is being stupid, so you just have to trust me.

Peace.

Let's call it a dozen

Just a little update on our progress this year.

Our goal for the year was 10 new volunteers. So far since our calendar year started in September 2007 we have 12 new vols! I don't really know what we're doing or why it's happening, but God is bringing some major all-stars to our ministry. These people WANT to help out in Middle School Ministry...seriously, what's going on here?

I'm amazed.

Finally

i got to get some rest last night. this is what happened.

wow.

Prayer Request

I wanted to send this out to whoever reads this blog. ( I don't know who you are, but I appreciate you greatly!!!) We have our church's grand opening this Sunday. We expect HUGE crowds and part of that means dealing with all of the MSers who will come with them. Please pray for our church, for the people coming, and that we do our best for them.

Peace.

B.

New Big Daddy

In all the hustle and bustle of the move and the new building I don't think I have even mentioned that I have a new boss. Shannon Whaples formerly of Christ Community Church, (a massive 12,000 member church in Palm Beach, FL) is now our Next Gen. pastor. He is amazing and a great member of our team.

The New Building

I have been talking about the grand opening so much lately I thought I should put some pictures up to let you know just what it is. the first is a shot from the front bridge...the second, from the top entrance to the worship experience center. enjoy.

not so soft my friend

Well it snowed/sleeted tonight during our soft opening. Our vols were amazing with all of the things that we had to do with a first time service at a new facility. We had a great crowd. We even hit our average from last semester but were still down from the past two weeks. We recruited FOUR new volunteers who were there to see what we do and were just blown away. The band just absolutely rocked tonight. Jeremy and the guys from Echoing Angels sounded better than ever before and worship was loud...really really loud. We also had to deal with all of the confusion that this made for our parents who were excited about getting the MSers out of the house, but didn't really want them to spend the night at the church. We are now exactly one week away from our Grand Opening at ReMix and have lots to do and adapt around. I am so excited and blessed to do what I do.

getting all ready for the soft opening

here we are at Christ Chicken getting ready for the soft opening tonight...we went to Creekland MS today and we felt like rockstars. God has really done a great work in that school since the start of the year. Where we once were not even allowed, we now can come and go as we please.

This is John (other campus MS director)

and Laura (greatest intern on Earth)

Softly not Tenderly

Tonight we have our soft opening for our weekly Wednesday night service. I am really excited about my sermon because it is something that I need to know as much as anyone.

The Most Dangerous Sin - The Sin of Comparison
Scripture - Numbers 13 and 14
Big Ideas- In order to deal with this most dangerous sin you have to be able to 1.) Be Alert to the Symptoms 2.) Acknowledge the Strategy and 3.) Apply the Safe Guards
Main Thought - God did you create you to measure yourself against things that were not made to use as measurements.

Prayers = No Bad Weather (It's supposed to sleet late tonight) Also - my throat is killing me with all the speaking lately.

Mac Me Baby

Steve Jobs gave the annual Apple address this afternoon where Apple usually debuts a new product or few. Today he did not disappoint. New Macbook Air, now I know what I am saving for. It is so schweet!!! Also- now i can SMS multiple people at once...thanks Steve.

going old school

since i work at a church that is fairly innovative we have decided to go old school in our student ministry's grand opening on Jan. 23. we are going to have phone banks where our volunteers call every single person on our lists to let them know about what is going on. in a day and age of podcasts, direct streaming, blogs, and twittering....it's like we just put on an old vinyl record because we just KNOW it sounds good. i am excited about our ministry probably more than ever before. we officially outgrew our space in 1 hour...that's pretty cool. also- i'm excited because it seems like the team is starting to come together more and more and we are syncing up like we need to be.

that's all for right now.

Monday Morning Reflections

* Friday night we had a huge crowd at ReMix. We dismissed too early, had to bring them back and dismiss again. it was like trying to brush fire ants off.

* Sunday Morning here at 12Stone was amazing. PK threw down the hammer. "If you get up and leave in the middle of a service, when you get to your car and leave the parking lot, don't bother coming back." -Pastor Kevin

* At the end of small groups yesterday we did the macarena, the cha-cha, the chicken dance, and the electric slide all because our main service can't seem to get it together and end a service on time.

* I'm kinda scared about that last comment that I wrote. I love working here.

* If you scrolled past the youtube video, go back and watch it.

* Dan Reiland is giving us an ice cream party on Wednesday night, that must be a good thing. He is the best boss I've ever had.

* I went to Auburn Church last night, a new partner of Northpoint. At the first service, they had more than 400 people. Pretty amazing to think about how big God's work is and that I get to be apart of it.

best three minutes of your day

i'm serious.
watch the whole thing.

It came, it went, let's do it again!

So our first service came last night. We had our largest attendance ever for a non-event ReMix...and it was on a Friday night! God is so good!

We dismissed at the normal time only to find that the adult service was not done and we were very very loud. Like a heard of wild horses running through a canyon. We got them all back inside, with minimal difficulty!!!

Last night I felt like I was going to die. I need more than 3 hours sleep per night apparently.

Tomorrow morning we do our first small group meeting and the only question is whether or not we will have too little space, or way too little space.

More updates to come tomorrow.

my first gig

this is what i responded to and now get to take part in....yeah boy.

We need your help!

We’re creating a brand-new junior high newsletter, and we’d love to add your great ideas. We’re looking for games, discussion starters, Bible studies, retreat ideas, service ideas, outreach ideas, small group ideas—whatever has worked for you in your ministry to junior highers. We only want ideas that are specific to the junior high age group.

We’re also looking for longer pieces that deal with building your volunteer team and partnering with parents—these can be as long as 400 words.

So send your ideas to sfirestone@group.com, put “Junior High Newsletter” in the subject line, and if we use it we’ll pay you $50 for the short ideas and $150 for the longer pieces.

if you are interested in helping too...please let me know and i'll pass the info along to GROUP.

peace.

Communicado

last night was the third week we have not had a wed. night program...what a relief from previous times in other jobs!!!! but i am still running into interesting problems. people just don't read. i think people want to hear what is going on and not have to put any effort into it at all. below you will find the amount of communication we did for the holiday/grand opening schedule.

e-mails: 11
postcards: 2
newsletter: 1
phone calls: 0
announcements: 1,000,000(not really but it felt like it)
text messages: 0
facebook / myspace: created groups, events, and sent mass messages

so i don't really get it. how can you effectively communicate to everyone?

does anyone know what it is or how to do it?

B

it's been a while

where have you gone Joe DiMaggio? These are the lyrics to a popular song that was then transformed into a more popular movie.

lately it could be described as my presence in the blog world. i have spent quite some time doing some thinking, some living, some reading, and some work. things are well for the most part.

our church changed it's name to 12stone church. you can go to 12stone.com and read the whole story.

also- i was doing some numbers for our ministry the other day and found this out.
God has been amazingly bountiful in His blessing of our ministry this year. i am blown away that this is even possible.

middle schoolers are still my favorite people ever.

also- jason and nan britt are pregnant again. could i possibly be a godfather part 2?

what more to say, i am reading an awesome book right now. "why revival tarries," by leonard ravenhill. it is messing me up.

right now, pray for me. this next month is going to be crazy with all of the changes. more to come later
